An Owl is a nocturnal bird of prey with large forward-facing eyes surrounded by facial disks, a hooked beak, and typically a loud call. Owls are also animals that are extremely rare to the point of extinction and symbolizes wealth.
History and Extinction
Several years after the fallout resulting from World War Terminus decimated much of Earth. In the aftermath, the United Nations encourages people to emigrate to Off-world colonies to preserve the human race from the effects of the radioactive dust. One incentive is that each emigrating family will receive a custom-built android/replicant servant.
Those who remained on Earth, suffered from radiation poisoning that caused significant illness and gene damage. The harmful effects of the radiation also affects animals on earth as well. All animals are endangered and some are extinct.
Animoids and Social Status
Owning and caring for an animal is considered a civic virtue and a status symbol, depending on the rarity of the species. Animals are bought and sold according to the price of the latest Sidney's Catalog, extinct animals are listed at the price of the last example sold. Some people who cannot afford an animal choose to buy an artificial, robotic animal to maintain social standing.
Owls are extinct. Owning an owl signifies a strong financial standing for the owner as well as strong social standings as well. Only very few individuals own real-life owls and they all sell for a high price on any market.
Animoids of owls are special as they are animods of an extinct animal and the animods are designed to act similar to real-life owls almost to a full indistinguishable difference. However, due to the extinction of owls, artificial owls are also rare and owning an animoid owl also symbolizes wealth and powerful social standing.
